The Wild Night Calls by Barbara S. Rosenthal
A Very Short Biography
Except for a couple of years in Spain, I have lived all my life in California. From childhood, I loved any way of making “stuff.” Whatever else was going on in my life (working, motherhood, teaching) I have found time to take art classes, study and mostly paint. Only after meeting my artist husband did I think of art as a career. It has been rewarding to share my passion with children and adults, whether showing my own work, demonstrating, teaching or organizing exhibitions for others.
My art is usually based on favorite pages from my sketchbooks, including something I saw that seemed perfect, or a feeling or thought that found visual expression. The best part of art is when someone connects and says, “Yes! I get that!”
Crowning Achievement by Robert “Rosey” Rosenthal
A Short Biography
Rosey’s first art heroes were comics illustrators Frank Frazzetta, Wally Wood, Al Williamson and the artists of Mad Magazine.
Graduating from Pratt Institute, with a BFA degree he began a career as a New York City advertising art director. In this demanding profession he learned to discipline his creativity.
Moving to California and determined to create his own art, he left the ad agency world and applied himself to ink drawing, and printmaking. He began selling his drawings and etchings at Los Angeles and San Francisco art fairs. As his reputation grew. now selling through agents nationally, he and his family moved to San Luis Obispo.
Rosey with his artist wife Barbara, were founding members of the Central Coast Printmakers (1982), opened the San Luis Artists’ Gallery (1999) and guest lectured for Cal Poly and Cuesta College.
Both were artists-in-residence for a year at the Fundación Rodriguez-Acosta in Granada, Spain.
Rosey shared another adventure with Barbara, demonstrating and selling original etchings at the California Renaissance Pleasure Faires. For over twenty years these Faires evolved into one of their major print venues.
Their next adventure was joining Studios on the Park in Paso Robles, Anne Laddon's wonderful non-profit collection of art studios/galleries and children’s education center.
Rosey and Barbara have hand-printed and sold over 20,000 original prints and are still excited exploring the art of printmaking and sharing prints with you.
